Alesso feat. Matthew Koma - Years

#25: Alesso feat. Matthew Koma – Years

Singer-songwriter Matthew Koma has created miracles for the lucky few fortunate enough to work with his lyrical forte during the year. He wrote lyrics for Fedde Le Grand & Nicky Romero on “Sparks” and even teen pop idol Carly Rae Jespen on “This Kiss”.

But perhaps “Years” is the single that resonated the most out of his breakthrough 2012 discography; at least to the EDM crowd.

The M Machine - Metropolis Pt. I

#24: The M Machine – Deep Search

Metropolis Pt. I, the colorfully deep debut EP from The M Machine and recently crowned runner-up EP of 2012, is an electro house treasure chest filled with wonderful gold coins.

“Deep Search” is the one gold coin in that depository that makes locating the loot tenfold worth its value to harmony hunting pirates sailing the seven seas for the M that marks the spot.

Martin Solveig - The Night Out

#23: Martin Solveig – The Night Out (Madeon Remix)

Martin Solveig’s laid back fifth offering from his fourth studio album Smash didn’t quite seal the match point, but French teen phenomenon Madeon served up an ace that finished off the doubles match when he unleashed his trademark throwback spin.

Tennis terminology to the bench, Martin Solveig did far from strike out when he took the faithful leap to call Hugo up to bat.

Pierce Fulton feat. Bebe Rexha - Sink or Swim

#22: Pierce Fulton feat. Bebe Rexha – Sink or Swim

When 20-year-old Pierce Fulton recruited former Black Cards lead vocalist Bebe Rexha to front his latest genre-blending track, the match made in heaven would soon yield this dreamy electro trance number.

“Sink or Swim” touches base on Fulton’s familiar electro house sound, while it also ventures offshore from the previous works of both artists.

Afrojack & Shermanology - Can't Stop Me

#21: Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me

Nick van der Wall had far from a dull 2012. He stormed the Beatport Top 10 multiple times, placed within DJ Mag’s Top 10 DJs for a second time, and made a new friend who occasionally spins his disks when she’s not spinning something else of his.

“Can’t Stop Me” affirms Afrojack’s unstoppable momentum.

LTN - Ordinary People (Part Two)

#20: LTN – Ordinary People (D-Mad Remix)

After being featured on Armin van Buuren’s prestigious ASOT radio show in January, D-Mad’s remix of Louis Tan’s “Ordinary People” was instantly set to become one of 2012’s biggest trance anthems.

It isn’t enough in the diverging trance universe to sound ordinary, so D-Mad brought beauty and power to a delicate track that served well to people in a big room era.

Marina & the Diamonds - Primadonna (BURNS Remix)

#19: Marina & the Diamonds – Primadonna (BURNS Remix)

The time and place may not seem right for downtempo to sweep the clubs, but with the help of BURNS, the genre can certainly fit in between headliners as tasteful interludes.

The mysterious London act chops and pitches Marina’s voice, scrapping the Beverly Hills scenario altogether to retrace the song as an inverted soundscape of the original.

Their remix of Andrew Bayer’s “Keep Your Secrets” continues to verify the couplet’s promise as future trance gurus.

Tim Mason - Anima

#17: Tim Mason – Anima

Progressive house is a progressively general classification for a widespread genre of EDM due to the many changes that have occurred throughout its twenty-year lifetime.

Tim Mason is able to capture both the old and new in his single “Anima” that kickstarted 2012. It’s stadium ready house with the simplicity and thrill of earlier 2000’s tracks.

Laidback Luke, Arno Cost & Norman Doray - Trilogy (The Remixes)

#16: Laidback Luke, Arno Cost & Norman Doray – Trilogy (GTA Bigroom Mix)

Grand Theft Auto may not be what GTA stands for to Laidback Luke’s Miami producing protégé, but GTA’s bigroom mix of “Trilogy” is definitely grand, criminal, and fully automatic.

GTA’s remix explodes with a drop that is nearly as violent as the Italian mafia sandbox franchise the initialism parallels.

Wolfgang Gartner - Redline

#15: Wolfgang Gartner – Redline

Certainly included on our theoretical list of 2012 MVPs, Wolfgang Gartner supplied the year with incredibly catchy progressive electro house offerings that turned the world’s nightclubs upside down.

Just because a group disbands doesn’t mean it can’t part ways with a bang as loud, proud, and inspirational as their cataclysmic rise to the top.

Featuring John Martin, “Don’t You Worry Child” ensures fans that after the supergroup’s valedictory, the three Swedes will continue to deliver top-notch hits.

Pierce Fulton - 10/6 (That Should Do It)

#12: Pierce Fulton – 10/6 (That Should Do It)

Another downtempo sleeper hit, Pierce Fulton’s “10/6 (That Should Do It)”, released for free via SoundCloud last spring, is likely one of the most moving tracks sampling the Mad Hatter.

To say the least, Pierce Fulton is an excitingly unpredictable artist with a drive for authenticity that fellow producers should strive towards.
